What to bring to Tryouts?
1. Dress Comfortably for Volleyball (Comfortable clothes, Kneepads)
2. Water or Gatorade
3. Positive, ready to work attitude!

Parents and Spectators are not allowed in the gym during tryouts.

Tryout Fee - $20 for returning Hazard athletes, $40 for new athletes, $50 at the Door
Tryout Fee payment may be sent via Paypal, Venmo or Zelle

However old you will be on July 1, 2026 is the age group you should be in.
11's-Players who were born on or after July 1, 2014 (typically 5th grade)
12's-Players who were born July 2013-June 2014 (typically 6th grade)
13's-Players who were born July 2012-June 2013 (typically 7th grade)
14's-Players who were born July 2011-June 2012 (typically 8th grade)
15's-Players who were born July 2010-June 2011 (typically 9th grade)

Current Openings-
11s - 2 positions
12s - 1 position
13s - 1 position
14s - 5 positions

Travel teams attend 10 tournaments-8 local (Greater Houston area) 1 day tournaments and Two 2
Day tournaments with at least one being out of town.
Local teams attend 8 local (Greater Houston area) tournaments.
 
Season fees include Gym rental, insurance, tournament entry fees, uniform top (2 for travel teams), spandex, volleyball shoes, backpack, kneepads, practice t shirts, socks, coaches’ fee, and volleyball equipment.
 
Please Note: Fees Do not include USAV Lone Star Region Registration, transportation, hotel, and food during tournaments.
No player will be issued any equipment/uniforms until deposit is paid.

​Team Placement Process
At Hazard, our teams are designated as Black, White, and Blue. Each season, athletes are evaluated and, in some cases, roster movement occurs. Athletes may have developed new skills or a coach may need to fill a specific role both of which can impact team assignments. Movement between “A” and “B” teams is a normal and necessary part of the tryout process. Keeping a player on an A team who is no longer the best fit would be unfair to a B team athlete or new player who has earned that opportunity. Movement between teams after rosters are set in the summer does not typically occur. 
Team decisions are made immediately following tryouts in a closed coaches’ meeting. Parents and players are not involved in this process. Head coaches of all A teams, in coordination with their respective B team coaches, make initial selections. Once A teams are finalized, B team coaches complete their rosters and so on based on the remaining talent pool. Generally each team will have 9-11 athletes. 
Team selections will be emailed by Saturday, June 21. To secure your spot, deposits and contracts must be submitted by Tuesday, June 24. The deposit is non-refundable and used to secure your spot on the team. We begin preparing for the season early, using these funds to cover expenses such as tournament entry fees, uniforms, gym rental, etc. Because these costs are incurred well before the season begins, any payments made are non-refundable. We expect all players to honor the agreement made upon accepting the position.

Season Information

Practice will typically begin in mid November twice per week (October for 11s and 12s teams). All teams will attend 8-10 tournaments total. The season ends around mid April.
